I just love her stuff. Flattering, comfortable and original. Can't ask for more. Hemp ruffled skirt ($65) and 3/4 sleeve top ($60). Visit her Etsy shop here.

Good Morning, Pockets

I love this pocket skirt. Possibly because I am under the delusion that it would hide rather than accentuate my well-fed thighs. I enjoy my delusions, especially when they come with a lovely bubbled hem and plenty of space for wheels of cheese. Hey, a girl gets hungry when wearing a skirt.

Slinky Suit

Not exactly a weekend look, but I love this cropped jacket and lace-up skirt from Nanette Lepore. I imagine this is what Jessica Rabbit would wear if she got a job.

Marc Jacobs, Again

I recently waxed philosophical about Marc Jacobs. Or, as philosophical as one can really get over pieces of cloth whose only real function is to keep you warm and decent. Is that blasphemy? That may actually be fashion blogging blasphemy. Not that I'm a fashion blogger. Fashion bloggers know trends from 1983, who designed those trends, and how those trends are applicable today. The extent of my fashion exposition can be encompassed in "Ooh! Pretty!"

Anyway. More Marc Jacobs. Because I'm loving the layers and the red shoes. Hey, look! Layers and red shoes! Awesome. I'm even enjoying the shorts. It's been a long, hard slog, getting me to appreciate the shorts.

Less on the layering, more on the pseudo-safari, mostly urban, kind of military look. That's really quite a look - and more fully explicates my inability to do much in the way of fashion commentary. Sateen jacquard jacket and faille skirt - I also feel uneasy about my inability to define either jacquard or faille. Perhaps I need to take cloth less seriously. Especially as cloth is unlikely to ever hire me and give me dental.

Ladies Who Lunch (Don't Read this Blog)

I would now like to compose an ode to shiny dresses.

...

Fine. I'm not so good with odes. I'm better at shopping than composing verse. Though I do seem to recall a poem about bell peppers that won me much coveted praise from my senior year English teacher. Yes, I am a geek. I would like to be a shiny geek wearing this silk dress:

Or a Jackie O. geek wearing this belted jacket and plisse skirt.

What, exactly, is plisse? I assume it's a type of material, probably a type of a fancier nature than polyester, given the general price of these garments. I could just look it up, but what fun would that be? No fun at all. I prefer to make up a little story about Monsieur Plisse who invented this fabric in 1725, when his small, cabbage-shaped dog peed all over the bolts of cloth lying about his tailor shop. I am assuming that plisse really has nothing to do with canine urine.

Both from Akris.

Shopbop Sale, Part 2

Shopbop, how I love thee. I love your sales even more because that's the only time I can even dream about affording anything you offer. Kids, don't ever become an arts writer if you like clothes. You will be buying your jeans at Old Navy. And you will be glad, because the only other option is to run about in the altogether and 1. it's just too damn cold for such nonsense, and 2. no one wants to see that.

Gorgeous, gorgeous. Who doesn't want a cashmere skirt? I ask you. Unique style, cozy drape. Yum. Karl Lagerfeld cashmere skirt, on sale for $148.

Not everyone can pull off this look. I certainly can't and was undecided for a long while as to whether or not I would even want to. This photo proves that 1. this particular set of legs can pull it off and 2. I do like it. Very sleek. adam + eve pinstripe herringbone work pant, on sale for $82.50.

I am cringing as I look at this, thinking of the cold artic breezes that would waft up this skirt. I'm thinking that you aren't supposed to wear it any time artic breezes are a possibility. Joie lightweight gauze southside dress, on sale for $157.50.

Shopbop Sale

I like the way the quilting enhances the skirt's shape. Also, quilted silk just always seemed the ultimate in luxury to me. No idea why. Maybe because it's soft and pillowy? Unlike the model's abs? Note: shirt recommended with this particular look. Karl Lagerfeld skirt with quilted hem (on sale for $175).

Not quite bootie, not quite pump. Not quite out of price range. In fact, totally IN price range. Hallelujah. Dolce Vita short bootie (on sale for $54).

Could be awesome, could be awesome in how wrong it is: Marie Marie tulip skirt/cape (on sale for $161). Can be worn as a skirt or a cape. I'm not sure I'd buy it online without knowing which awesome category it lands under, but brave souls could have a real find.

Peruse the rest of the sale here.

It's Really All About the Red Shoes

I've never been a huge Marc Jacobs devotee. Of course, if we're going to talk like that, I'm not really a huge devotee of anyone except Old Navy. But there are certainly designers who are first in line when those truckloads of expendable income appear on my doorstep. (Any day now.) Marc Jacobs wasn't really one of them. But I just looked at the Neiman Marcus stock and found multiple outfits that I would wear. Over and over. And then over again. I would even wash them in between. I would even TAKE THEM TO THE DRY CLEANERS. I know.

Outfit Numero Uno:

That's a cashmere hoodie there. I don't think luxury gets any better than a cashmere hoodie paired with a patchwork silk a-line skirt in a color called "parsnip". Lovely. Especially with the shoes.

Outfit Numero Dos

I've been wanting a jean skirt lately. They go with everything - especially stripey sweaters. I like the short-sleeve sweater with long-sleeve jersey look. I will have to try that and see if it works on real people. Have I mentioned the shoes?

Outfit Numero Tres

Another variation on the silk patchwork skirt look - easy yet fetching. So, how about those shoes?

Denim Skirts Du Jour

I still can't think about denim skirts without recalling the mini-skirt hemmed with deep ruffles - the one sported by a girl I knew in the late '80s. Today's denim pencil skirts are tailored to create a new staple that jumps effortlessly from fall to winter to spring with a simple change of top and shoes.

The high belted waist of this 7 for all mankind indigo denim skirt makes it both chic and work appropriate. Never underestimate the power of cute/able to wear it on a Wednesday morning. (Bergdorf Goodman, $187)

Stretch black denim from Marc Jacobs takes a librarian-esque below-the-knee pencil skirt and adds a little rocker chick sensibility with the zippered pockets and the possibility of legwarmers. Legwarmers aren't usually something I'd recommend, but the model rocks it hard enough that I'm googling "button-up legwarmer spats" (no luck as yet). Shirt suggested during those chilly winter months. (Shopbop, $168)

My indie denim pick of the day is from Dena Pezzano. I love the high-waist (good for the holiday season and all that sneaky fudge) and the front slit on her a-line skirt. ($150)

Foiled Again

When you have a stunning pair of red shoes (like these here), sometimes you just need an outfit that foils the fabulousness of your footwear. In that spirit, I present to you the outfit du jour.

Nanette Lepore consistently produces pieces that are ladylike, yet eye-catching. I love the fitted structure and flaring sleeves of this silk georgette blouse ($350). You'll slide beautifully from drinks on Saturday night to breakfast with grandma on Sunday morning. (We know you didn't have time to go home and change, you saucy minx.)

Pair the top with this high waist skirt from Norma Kamali ($135) in matching black with just a hint of flare at the hem.

Restrained beauty with just a hint of vixen is yours at last.

Pink Elf

I never came within five city blocks of San Francisco fashion week. Luckily, I read blogs of those who did. Meet San Francisco-based Pink Elf. More specifically, meet the swingy square covered skirt from Pink Elf:

Snazzy and unique. Why subscribe to cookie cutter fashion when you can pick up a designer souffle on sale?

Ridiculously Inexpensive Summer Sale

Words we love to hear, especially from Max Studio. I bought a bride's maid dress at Max Studio and was converted to expensive clothing forever. Or at least until my nonexistent trust fund runs out. You know the one. It's called "visa."

Until they start handing out their lovely clothes for 10 bucks a pop, I wouldn't call the sale ridiculously inexpensive, but it's certainly a bargain compared to their usual price tags. Here are a few of my favorites:

This powder pink camisole made a stunning jump from $118 to $38:

I love the color and the bodice detailing. Perfect with a jean skirt or capris.

White skirts are everywhere these days. I have two. I am obviously a sheep. But they're so pretty (especially this white linen version), that becoming a white-skirted lemming is far preferable to indulging in leggings. (Really, don't do it.) This one jumped is down from $188 to $88:

More from Mighty Flirt

I am a big fan of skirts. Specifically, I am a big fan of Mighty Flirt skirts. This tulip skirt is an immediate winner. Just enough design to make it unique and interesting but not so much that you're afraid to wear it with any kind of jewelry, lest you resemble a gypsy on the way to the fair. Pair with a white top and your favorite platform sandals and off you go.

This petal mini is another score. Two inch band of tummy not required.

I'll Have What She's Having

I've been known to buy things just because I like the way they feel. Then I pet myself in public. This is only one small step above petting other people in public. A friend introduced me to Cordarounds - and by "introduced me" I mean "she bought out the entire web site and now taunts me with her plush corduroy pants." I've been longing for this corduroy skirt ever since:

Horizontal corduroy, they're guaranteed not to make your butt look big. (If anyone's concerned about that horizontal thing.) The skirts are A-line with a cut-out to show off the lining, and come in both olive and brown. The day they make red is the day I buy three. Plus, it's a San Francisco company and Al Gore is all about buying local. I always listen to Al Gore when making my fashion choices.

They're Baaack...

As soon as you purge something from your closet thinking, "This will never come back" - it comes back. Just to mock you. Case in point: jean skirts. Call me short sighted but I never thought I'd see these again. Yet here they are. What's more, I even like some of them. Updated with an A-line shape (oh, how my thighs loves that!) and a hem that demurely hits the knee, rather than flaunting your superwoman underoos every time you drop something, this Marc Jacobs jean skirt is one that I would happily wear:

Practical and attractive, this baby would pair with virtually any top, pair of shoes or handbag in your closet.

Three Times a Week, Every Week

I found these skirts via the meandering path of the interweb. Susie Sunshine proclaimed her love for Libby Dibby's reversible wrap skirts and I was sold. Note: reversible wrap = two skirts in one, you dirty cheater. I am proud to say that I am a dirty cheater.

I am also lazy, another bad habit this skirt encourages. It takes about as much effort to put on as wrapping a towel around your waist. With the added advantage of not caring one damn bit if you go up or down a size. Too much fried mayonnaise? Just loosen that ribbon and have another potato chip! If you do go down a size, please don't tell me. I eat fried mayonnaise.

Lady Libby uses an A-line design with vintage fabrics, which delights my little vintage-loving self no end. After much hemming, hawing, and frantic up-and-down scrolling, I have determined that spring champagne is my favorite:

Libby Dibby graciously extended her 10 percent discount to you, my six Moose in the Closet readers. Simply use the "unpaid" code word to receive your deal. If you decide to get one, tell Lady Libby that you found it here. I just might get an extra five percent off that spring champagne skirt I will be buying when that paycheck comes in. I'm all about exploiting my fine readers. While wearing a cute skirt.
