Favorites from Spring RTW, Minus Commentary

Stubborn Mules

Spring is all about the yellow (also cerulean blue, but that's not today's point). Manolo's yellow buckle mule ($575) is the perfect shoe to buy in February and stare at longingly until April.

Right Down to the Red Sole

Christian Louboutins, like a Pulitzer Prize, are the goal. Oh Deers, like that one comment that exclaimed "Hey! Great use of punctuation!", are a very acceptable substitute.

1) Katherine 2) Garbo 3) Audrey (all $110). Check the rest out here.

Yum

I love the fabric, the necklines, the cinched waists, the flowing silhouettes. Casual but elegant - gorgeous for spring.

From Bottega Veneta's spring collection.

Shiny, Captain

Designers are taking the shiny in a more refined direction this spring. And thank the baby jesus for that because the sequins were making me squint. I especially love Behnaz Sarafpour's take on elegant sheen.

Swoon

From Derek Lam's spring collection.

P.S. I've decided to give up on both commentary and anything that doesn't go on your feet. Because instant gratification is sweet.

Panacea

Sometimes, when you're feeling down, all you need to do is look at these for awhile:

Until you get all depressed again because you realize that not only will you never be able to afford a pair of shoes like this, you can't afford any shoes. So you're back to square one. Sorry.

Free Stuff

You know, if you manage to win. Which I never do. But it's a good way to shop and not over-exert your poor, maligned credit card.

Enter Bag Snob's Ostrich Clutch Sweepstakes.

Or Banana Republic's Daily Bag Grab.

Or, for people who have too many bags already (who ARE you?), a $1,000 gift certificate from Shopbop.

Working the Black/Brown

There is a certain segment of the population that would look good in this dress - the big-breasted one. Meaning: not me. But, as dresses go, you can't get much more comfortable than jersey. And, as jersey dresses go, you can't get much prettier than the Sweetees Jules striped dress ($89).

The Hot Place

I'm not usually one for splashing around the hideous. Too many other things to do. Like floss. And rearrange my file cabinet. Besides, the Fug Girls have cornered the market. But sometimes you need to make an exception. Prepare for the scroll down. This outfit is not what I would choose to wear but it's not bad, even with the white jeans, keep scrolling, until:

Big Foot is shedding hot, salty tears. Those shoes are his trademark. His identity. And you went and stole them. Someone's going to the special hell.

Yes, Again

I'm planning to start something new here soon. But, for now, more shoe blogging. Because I do love the shoe blogging.

Oh, red shoes how I love thee. The Dolce Vita pump ($138) in crimson is a solid choice.

Shoe Trends: Part 4

I wouldn't want to visit a zoo in these shoes, lest the animals revolt at my cruelty to their compatriots. But otherwise, animal print is a go. My usual plan with high maintenance shoes is to downplay the rest of the outfit. (I realize there's a distinct possibility that I am very dull.) Pair leopard print platforms with a jean skirt and a white top or a simple black dress and kazaam. I have no idea what kazaam is meant to imply, so someone please wear these shoes and investigate for me.

Prada leopard platform mary jane (on sale for $348)

Jeffrey Campbell love ballet flat (on sale for $52)

Manolo Blahnik zebra print maryjane ($565)

Feeling buffeted by the vagaries of fashion? Refuse to wear a metallic minidress for fear of looking like a misplaced astronaut? There are other options if you like shiny metal but don't want to appear swaddled in tinfoil.

Christian Louboutin metallic round toe pump ($525)

Loeffler Randall metallic flat ($349)

Michael Kors metallic pump (on sale for $248)

Shoe Trends: Part 2

My shoes tend to run red. Were this 1872, I would be an official hussy. Living in the right century means not only do I get red, I get shiny red. And, people, life is good in shiny red shoes.

Patent wedge ($710): I like everything I put on this blog o' rampant consumerism, but I lust for these. I would buy this gorgeous pair of Christian Louboutins faster than you can say "debilitating credit card debt" if only my guilt-ridden conscience would let me. It won't. Good for my future financial stability, bad for my closet.

Marilyn Peep-toe ($395): Garish fire engine red totally works for Dolce and Gabbana. Not sure how they manage that. Is it the black piping? Do they rub the leather with money? Why would these be awful at Ross but oh-so-fabulous from a recognizable fashion house? Is this snobbery? Or simple quality? Oh, the (unfortunately rhetorical) questions.

Patent ballerina flat ($235): I can see how these wouldn't work for a lot of people. My own response to Marc Jacobs's shoes is often "Jesus Christ on a cupcake! Hideous dominatrix elf shoes!" But I am, this very moment, trying to convince myself of how much I need these. I love the rose grosgrain against the cranberry patent leather and the cut-out below the bow.

Shoe Trends: Part I

People are loving the gray shoes lately. I'd be loving the gray shoes too, except for the undeniable fact (I really hate facts) that I would never wear gray shoes. But for those who do, or who just like looking at pretty pictures of pretty shoes, here's the seasonably appropriate and oh-so-chic gray:

Marc Jacobs distressed maryjane (on sale for $380)

Cynthia Vincent Twiggy ($350)

Delman Roxanne ($295)

Jeffrey Campbell Love patent ballet ($72)

Year in Bags

We all know that I love the bags. You may also know that I rarely have more than $75 to spend. (By "rarely" I mean "never".) So you should not listen to a word I say because, frankly, I don't know what I'm talking about. Like so many other internet browsers with bag aspirations, I rely on the Bag Snobs for their informed opinion. So I am blatantly stealing their Best of 2006 List for my own nefarious purposes. Namely, to present you with my favorites. Bags that would be in my closet right this very moment if someone presented me with a platinum American Express and redirected the bills to Yemen.

Chanel Bowling

Pierre Hardy

Gorgeous, aren't they? Practical yet stunning.

Bargain in Pink Suede

Le Train Bleu is one of my favorite sites for indie goods. Especially indie goods on sale. Today's shoe find is the pink louisa heel, on sale for $39. Floppy suede bows and leather trim make it 40 well-spent dollars. Especially since the ankle strap keeps them on your well-shod hipster feet as you peddle your fixed gear to Blondie's.
